2007 zx6r Problems.

So I ended up buying a 2007 zx6r with 10K miles that, does not run. The bike has been laid over hard on both sides and needs some serious love. She cranks alright and I can get her started with starter fluid. Unfortunately, once the bike starts it makes some angry clattering noises and dies :O. I have multiple videos and multiple pictures I can upload but, I am getting a SECURITY TOKEN message(help me get around that please).

I decided to focus on the starting problem first so, I currently have the tank/airbox out of the way and the spark plugs are pulled. Two of them are fouled and dirty and the other two look brand new. The cylinders appear to be extremely wet and dirty. They also wreak of gasoline. I think the clatter noise is a separate clutch issue but im usually wrong so we will see.

The bike allegedly ran 3-5 months ago for a short period of time and it sat before then as well. This is my first street bike and my first project so I could really use some help on this one. hopefully I will have pictures/videos up soon. I will also be needing parts soon :)
Thanks in advance,
Liam

OP,

If you have two cylinders that are fouled, and two that are not.... odds are good something common to that cylinder pair is at issue. About the only thing that fits that bill is the head gasket. You should see that, in the oil, or in the engine coolant. Cross contamination is easy to see.

A compression check is next after you find out if there is a reason to do so. (If there is metallic debris in the oil, or it looks like a malted milkshake, smells of engine coolant, stop. The compression check will tell you if you have good sealing on each cylinder. That will tell you if there is a ring or valve problem.

So I drained the oil and it does not have any metal shavings and just looks like dirty oil. I wish I could post these pictures/videos because it is a very peculiar problem/situation. I am going to fill her back up with oil, put some dry spark plugs in, clean the injectors and hit the starter. I think the noise and the starting issue are separate so I'm focusing on the noise issue first.

I'm assuming the coolant is also clear/no oil in it?

I'd suggest doing the compression check before you go any further.... odds may be that you are correct and the noise is nothing; if you are wrong, you are making the problem worse and worse every time you turn the motor over.

You should be able to rent the tool from a shop and use it for an hour or two, and KNOW where you are at.

As far as uploading video, I believe you need to make sure that is on a public server, and the privacy settings are low enough that we can view it.
