Hey guys I'm looking to upgrade my coolant to engine ice and I was wondering if anyone can tell me how much coolant I need. I've read around that I should flush the old stuff and then run distilled water. Anything I'm missing? Any help and feedback is greatly appreciated!
Always drain the system from both the water pump drain bolt and block drain bolt. Also make sure to empty the reservoir each time.
I first flushed with a 50/50 mixture of distilled water and distilled vinegar, and the second time flushed with just distilled water.
My bike took one full container of engine ice and a tiny little bit from the second one. It was so little that I honestly probably could have just topped off with distilled water and called it a day, but my bike is stored outside in the winter so I am paranoid.
Strider I didnt realize how little information I posted about my bike haha so my bad, its a 13' Kawasaki 636. Sorry I took so long to reply but in the mean time I got it done and everything's fine and worked great. Thanks guys!
When I switched to Engine Ice my on track operating temps dropped from around 205 to 185. Not to mention, there are other reported benefits to Engine Ice like better anti corrosion characteristics. You can read all about it on their website.
Does it get below freezing in LV? If not then I would just run distilled water and MoCool or LP race coolant. Antifreeze can't move more heat than water.
When switching over to engine ice, make sure your flush your system thoroughly with distilled water before putting engine ice in. Propylene glycol and ethylene glycol don't mix together at all. Personally, I flushed my system three times over with distilled water before putting engine ice in.
I ended up having to use a little more than one jug of engine ice.
I take it a step farther and do an initial flush with 50/50 mixture of distilled water and distilled white vinegar. Then a second flush with JUST distilled water. Then you should be good to go.
If you still see crud coming out after the second flush, or if it still looks green, I would recommend a third flush again with just distilled water.
