Exclamation 2000 Kawasaki ZX6R Running issues

Hello Everyone,
I recently bought a 2000 ZX6R and am currently restoring it. A project in itself, however I need your help.

Issue 1: The choke lever that should be on the handle bar, next to the horn and light switch is missing the slider deal for the choke is it wiser to replace the whole assembly or just the slider?

Issue 2: The choke is running on full currently so I only start the bike for a couple min, than shut her down so I don't do damage. However today she was having running issues, wouldn't start, just sputter, maybe run for three seconds and die. Why would this be?

Issue 3: After taking her apart the spark plugs were gapped at .032 and the manual says between .07-.08 is this true? They are NGK spark plugs.

Issue 4: A little white smoke came out after like 15 seconds disappeared and she smells really rich how can I fix this?

Note: Also after re-assembly she shot a couple of flames should I be worried?

if it's been running on choke most of the time, then flames might be because of unburned fuel getting into exhaust.

you probably run cheaper getting that whole assembly than just that one lever OEM from a dealer.

you should have tons of parts available since there was a ZZR600 from 2005-08. Probably around $10 + shipping.

manual goes by metric i.e. 0.08mm is around .0315 inch

More important is the colour of your spark plugs, once you got the choke fixed. They're probably pretty black right now.

Always make sure you get frsh gas. Condensation builds up over a few months, especially if the tank wasn't filled to the brim. even worse after the gas gets past 2 months of sitting WITHOUT fuel stabilizer.

Yes they were black cleaned, I cleaned them and put them back in, I will by the assembly than. Also when I took her apart I noticed the vacuum lines going into what looks like carbs were detached I re-attached them. How ever I just got the bike and there was very little gas in it when I got it, so I pit premium fuel in like a gallon and a half and a little gas treatment was I wrong for not just draining the tank or am I ok for now.

depends on if the float bowls where drained.

i've seen residue, dried up gas on the walls of a float bowl. could look through the needles but bike ran like crap. i put in new needles and the plug that shuts off fuel supply once the float hit that pin (old one was pissing fuel in closed state). It was just a rebuild kit with new O rings and needles. did it all.

there is a slide mounted underneath the carbs that opens pins on all 4 of them to enritchen the mixture fora cold engine start up.

you can work it manually with some pliers from the left side where you see the throttle cables and of course the choke cable.

Another thing, this bike has been laid down you can tel by the lutch and generator covers all scratched up, however i cant figure out what this part is called. It connects from my frame in the frong around the gas tank to the fairing where the mirrors are held on. it looks like a H is it a fairing support system?

it's the upper fairing stay.

zzr 600 models 05-08 don't have it anymore as they smartened up and just extended the inner cluster stay that bolts on the the steering stem, to bolt on to the mirrors.

I found my H to be handy at times, tying take out or small grocery bag to it LOL

keep your eyes open on ebay!

ZZR600 ZZR 600 05 06 07 08 Upper Fairing Stay Bracket | eBay

You can tell apart the oem from the chinese copies. I had 2 chinese versions, didn't bolt on directly, had to drill out the holes, where wobbly and needed washes squeezed in on the inside. Plus they broke off on the mirrors very quick.

OEM has that triangle hole in the middle, chinese is solid.

this is the upgraded version, eliminating that H between cockpit and tank!

you probably mean this Mirror Bracket
