Question Oil light comes on when bike reaches temp...

Hi I guess I should start off by giving you some background to the bike. It is a 2005 zx6r(636). There was a large hole in the cylinder block on cylinder 1 by the cylinder 1 coolant drain plug. I caused this by drilling too far in when removing a snapped off screw... This was causing all and I mean all of the oil to drain out of the plug as well as coolant. I dropped the engine and replaced the cylinder block. I took my time doing this and made sure to get the timing right. After all was said and done; I put the engine back in the bike. The engine started without trouble, minus a minor exhaust leak making a racket. The bike runs great but problem is that the water that got in through the hole was still in the system somewhere, and after filling with new oil it immediately ruined that oil. I dropped the oil, and filled with new and the oil picked up some of the stuff stuck to the engine. making it cloudy. So I again dropped it and put new oil in. Now it is staying clean, but the oil pressure light seems to flicker on and off. It starts flickering at 160f. It blinks on and off till it stays light brightly around 180f. I am unsure as to what can be causing this since the light stays off when cold. Even when the light comes on the bike runs fine. The sight glass shows proper levels and I put the correct amount of oil in. It isn't leaking from anywhere, I would know all fairings are off and I have clean cardboard under the bike. No coolant is in the oil as well as no oil in the coolant. Could the water have broken the sensor, or am I missing something? I really don't know but am afraid to ride it till I know what is causing this.
I should mention it was doing this before the last oil change, it was the main reason for the last change.

make sure u didnt get debris stuck on ur oil pick up screen. Have u changed your oil filter?

I would change the oil pressure sensor and see if it goes away. Its cheap anyway.

correct grade of oil? 10w40?

when you say it flickers/comes on is this at tickover only? Or does it do it also when you rev the engine slightly?

I spent quite a lot of time finding a similar fault in my '09.

My issue seems to have been a bad ground connection. The problem went away after I took the frame ground apart, under the seat behind the throttle bodies.

What is the actual oil pressure?

I don't give a good god damn about the light, but is there actually a problem or not?

Oil pressure gauge and adaptor to fix the bike is less than $50, buy them and test oil pressure, anyhting less than this is not diagnostic work! It is simply guesswork and hoping eventually you replace the right component......in otherwords- foolhardy!

If there is oil pressure, then you know it is sensor, wiring, electrical related......... and that is a whole different scenario than if it is oil pressure related

Stupid people say stupid things on the internet, so be wary of who those people are. If you solicit advice on the internet, just keep in mind 99% of what you'll receive is not based on fact or science-and likely atleast 95% of it is based on bullshit and bravado regurgitated from some other schlub who also did not experience any of what they claim and are also full of shit. If you don't like my bluntness- too bad. I am not here to please you, so move along, your approval is not desired nor is it needed. Hey Riverszzr! Just for future reference...where does one purchase the pressure gauge and adapter? Also, does it just hook up to where the existing pressure sensor is? Thank you!

pressure guage anywhere

adaptor from Ma Kaw.......and no- it goes in the oil galley on the side of the engine (you could always make your won but at $16 or so from kaw, go with the oe unit IMO)

So what was the oil pressure at idle and at 6000rpm or whatever you were revving to?

It was the Clintons. Looks like this oil pressure sensor came down with a bad case of being Epsteined.
