Hi Guys,

Been searching the forums but can't find any answers to my specific problem and hope you can shine a light with your expertise. Here goes:

Purchased bike from used dealership with warranty. 15,972 miles.

It is modded. Full exhaust, Two bros pipe, Power commander V, unsure of any mods inside the engine.

Has the carbon filter still installed (for the emission requirements in CA?), and no servo buddy.

Upon first day taking it home, I notice at warm up the bike idle is a bit unstable as it will rise to 2000 and drop back to 1400, rise up and then down a few times until it reaches about 150 degrees. Out on the ride the bike shuts off at speed.

35mph coming to a stop I pull in the clutch and the engine dies. RPMs sink all the way down to zero and the oil light pops up.

I get the bike restarted and head home, and I find the water pump is leaking directly on to the kickstand switch. Bike is getting extremely poor gas mileage, after a 40 mile ride I have to refill my tank.

Bike gets to the shop at the dealer and they replace the mechanical gasket in the water pump, re route the kickstand switch and replace the clutch switch, adjust the clutch lever play, and idle speed. They tell me there are no codes to indicate any faults on the bike.

Bike runs ok for 1 day and then the stalling issues return. Happens intermittently only when I am decelerating, could be when I am cruising at highway speed, slowing down for the off ramp at 50 mph, pull in the clutch and it dies.

Could be after warmup and I come to the first stop light a block away, pull in the clutch and it dies.

Could be after 30mins of riding and then slowing to a stop, pull the clutch in and it dies.

Its extremely random at this point. Bike goes back to the dealer this is now the 3rd time.

They unplug the power commander, now the bike is running lean. Gas mileage has improved I can ride approx 120 miles+ before a fill up. But the stalling issue is significantly worse and happening much more frequently.

Called the dealer and they sent me to a different shop. Race oriented bike shop. It has been there for 3 days. I called for an update:

Replaced spark plugs, removed and cleaned fuel pump, reconnect and disconnect power commander, checked valve clearances, replaced ECU. None of this has fixed the problem.

The mechanic said the dealer is sending over another ZX6R for him to pull parts off of to see if that will fix it.

Guys, Im at a loss here I don't know what to do. Can you please help? Thanks

Hi Thanks for your reply, The shop has not changed the battery but the PCV was removed and the issue got worse ( more stalling, popping on decel...although the gas mileage did improve.)

My last resort is to return the bike...I have contacted a lawyer in regards to the Lemon Law.

I would really like to fix it and was hoping someone has had a similar problem that can help me get my bike dialed in.

Besides finding a better map- it's not a pc issue obviously. Could check main harness connections although I believe 13+ harnesses are pretty reliable (time consuming to troubleshoot a harness also). Since it's a cali, try to find someone local without the stalling issues willing to swap ecu's briefly...... probably your best bet pinpointing the problem. Finding a good ecu is hit or miss btw. I'll bet the farm and all livestock that's the culprit.

Sounds like (correct if wrong) it when the clutch is getting pulled in that it shutting off? is a instant off (like kill switch) or more like it 2 or 3 seconds engine slowly dies?

My first reaction is that it TPS or throttle bodies in general. Rough idle sounded like valves, but you said they been adjusted and issue still present.

I have a friend having a similar issue with a GSX-R 1000.

Hi, I have a 2012 Zx6R and I’m having similar issues to what was described above. One thing that I can do with my bike is keeping the throttle rolled (SLIGHTLY) while holding the clutch and that seems to keep the engine running but if the throttle is released completely it cuts off. Was this issue ever resolved Kawaii636?
