Question 2019 ZX6R potential problems after forcing upshift without clutch?..

Hey all,

New here but I have a quick question. I recently switched my '19 zx6r to gp shifting and when I tried to use the quickshifter (going downwards now), I noticed it got stuck and then eventually shifted if i tried a little harder.

However, I realized that the '19 zx6r quickshifter is only meant for upshifts and even with gp shift, it is still only meant for literally clicking your foot upwards. I proved this by holding the throttle and quickshifting from 2nd to 1st.

So yeah, would there be any issues from forcing my bike to upshift without the clutch or rev matching? I tried it 4-5 times and now I'm wondering if that would've messed my gearbox up at all

Thanks!

Stomping it into the next gear can damage shift forks, shift drum, etc. It would take severe and repeated abuse to do it, tho.

Likely nothing wrong in your case.

I would expect that the sensor that detects the shifter lever movement should be reoriented so it can operate on the downward motion for your GP shift pattern.

Yeah I was hoping that I didn't damage anything after only doing it a few times.

and yeah not entirely sure how the quickshifter is installed on the 19s but I'll just have to figure it out lol. Thanks!

yes, i think the stock QS will not work if you changed it to GP shift... the 1up-5down.... i am also using the gp shift, and i think you just need to turn off the QS, and use the traditional way of shifting gears...

Hi, I was thinking of passing to GP Shift on a new 636 I will pick-up on 3 June. Do you have a picture of the setup?

On Aprilia, I bought an upside down lever so that quickshifter would work. I assume something similar would work as well on 636, but don't know without seeing how it looks on the bike.

Here are the pics of a standard and GP shift lever on Tuono.

I just saw that it is the pull quickshifter, so probably has to be replacea with some aftermarket. Shame on you Kawasaki for a 600cc racing bike in 2019 that you cannot switch to GP shift and keep QS.

Yeah it's only a pull. Seriously it should've just been a push/pull like how dynojet sells. I was considering purchasing the dynojet module when I got my pcv but $200+ for gp shifting isn't really worth it right now lol

You guys need to check out www.davemosstuning.com right now. Dave is presently prepping a 2019 for race duty and posts videos of the entire process. His most recent video shows that the stock quick shifter on the 19 does not work in gp shift mode and is presently testing an aftermarket unit. You do need to register for the site, and some videos require a paid subscription.

OK, I withdraw what I said, since I saw the post on new Woodcraft rearsets in the thread 2019 Race bike. In fact it is the same principle as for Aprilia. Just another gear pedal with upside down mounting like on my picture and it would work.

Dynojet sells pull only, push only, and a push pull sensor.

Can you just flip the rod end for end? Is there enough cable slack?
Has anyone tried flipping the rod end for end? Seems like the simplest solution. Let us know how this works out for you.

Anything can kill you. Pick something fun.

You can reverse shift using woodcraft GP rearsets

Newer dynojet/ transogic QS sensors can do both push and pull via two wire outputs provided.

If you have the older push/ pull switch units nextup's kit might work to convert them.

push conversion

pull conversion
