Just got a 2005 zx6r. Overall a great bike and only 7000km. Doing some work soon it to get it ready for spring. Took all the fairings off and noticed some type of weld/gasket repair to the lower half of the block. IS this a good repair, should I be concerned or off loading this bike ASAP???:|
Is that the bottom front of timing/pickup cover ? Need to zoom out. Looks like Jbweld or simler needs to come off to check whats happened underneath might just be the cover if your lucky.
it looks to me like someone had either ran it over something or crashed into something or jumped a curb or in some fashion they have broken the pan and part of the lower case........
replaced the pan and put something like liquid steel on the lower case half and then there is some silicon over the joint, and that bolt is missing
but...........the pictures leave a little to be desired
As far as "is this a good fix or not"................without atleast pulling the silicone off and removing the oil pan and looking in there to see- I cannot tell you........ I can say- that part of the cases is not load bearing, so stresses would be low, the oil pan not having all the bolts installed though could be an issue with leakage........possibly thus the silicone
Does it leak?
Have you been riding it this way?
Any idea how long it has been this way?
Let me guess the previous owner has zero knowledge of this and it is a multiple owner bike so who knows when or who did this......
Well hopefully you did not pay too much for it, replacing the cases it a shit ton of labor hours, plus several hundred in gaskets and seals
Upon closer review on full 24" monitor......
(and in light of your pm)
Yep.....Ignition rotor/pick up cover
So......... I would want to see inside it, the cam chain guides attach in there and the crank end, igniiton rotor and puck up coil all attach too.......... while it may not be leaking, I would want to first hand what it all looks like inside before trusting it.......sure it runs and apparently does not leak, but..............
Are you suggesting I take off the cover to inspect if it appears cracked through?
