Beefing up my winter gear....

I've been using the same textile jacket since 2001. A Technic design, which is supposed to be waterproof, armored, ventilated, and can employ a liner for more insulation.

I bought that jacket loose enough, to make sure I could layer under it. With the vents closed, the liner installed, the provided 'dickie' mounted on the neck and chest area, it's comfortable down into the 40 F region. When I add another sweater, good down to 35. the only area I get cold, is on the sleeves. The heated gloves keep my hands good to go, my torso is wind resistant enough to hold up well.

I realized my perforated leather jacket also has an optional zip in full sleeved liner, with a metallic looking coating on both sides of the quilted material...... I cannot zip that in place in my tecknic jacket, but I CAN layer that additional liner between the jacket shell and the liner tecknic provided...... that adds another layer over the entire length of my arms without increasing bulk in a drastic way. I can keep the wiring in place to support my electric gloves, the liner is 'trapped' by the tecknic liner so it won't bunch up.

the experiment will be done tomorrow morning when I ride the bike to work. Methinks I have increased the insulation, should make my arms more comfortable at a minimum.

Decided against riding today..... misty rain this morning, and the madding crowds all trying to get to grandma's house for turkey day. Not as cold as previous days due to the cloud cover, so not much point in the assessment.

Hoepfully this weekend.

Took it out for 1.5 hours today, 41F covered about 100 miles of moderate technical stuff. Freeway speeds except when caught in traffic.

The extra liner reduced cooling from my arms so that did what I wanted.

Just need to get my bladder to get with the program..... Everything was fine, made sure to unload before I set out..... Twinges set in maybe 5 minutes before I arrived back at the house. Once I put the key in the lock it became critical to relieve myself asap.

I don't think I will ever get used to taking care of business, wearing my FF helmet, jacket, boots, etc.

All's well that ends well.

^^ I was just North and East of the band that rolled over Richmond. Cool, but dry. I went North on 2, to 207, rode that to Ruther Gen, then ran North on 95 to Thornburg, and went East on 606 to Guinea, then North on 609 to Hwy 17. Followed that East and South to 301, and ran that South through AP Hill back to Bowling Green, then South on 2 back to Sparta Rd. Too many LEOs to romp excessively, had to be cautious of speed traps.

I usually run South and East of my home when I want to play. Lots of deeply back country pavement South of AP Hill. More dog hunting groups out and about than I like dealing with at the moment. Lots of mud and dirt on the road, and distracted driving.

Zero debris on the roads I ran today. Very slight dirt outside the wheel tracks, not enough to be a constant threat. Not intrusive at all.
