Central VA riders

I've been years without a bike. Wondering if anyone here is around Central VA/Richmond. I'm down in Chesterfield.

I'm NE of Richmond, a few miles North of Doswell..... Not next door, but relatively near by.

I need to do a few things to the bike Saturday. Then up for getting it out, and me used to it. Changed oil tonight (Thanks to you and the Walmart suggestion).

I should have new throttle cables in, then check codes and clear. I think it may be from the spark plug coming out. Bike runs great other wise. Need to glass the lower fairing, I cracked it getting it in the truck. Rode about 30 min on the back roads out here without the lower or mid fairing.

I'm booked most of Saturday getting work done on spouse's SUV.

Can't say that the odds are 100% that Sunday morning works, but that's the better bet from my end. Weather permitting, I could probably cut out a 3-4 hour window to meet up. Usually better for me earlier than later..... Guessing 08-1200 as the most likely.

I'd like the opportunity to say hello and do some riding; I don't marathon on the bike, my rides are usually a couple of hours. Most of a tank, somewhere over the speed limit with significant safety margins...... The goal is to make it home afterwards in the same condition I departed.

Cardinal rule: don't go faster than you can stop in the space you can see.

If that sounds like something you are interested in, we'll work out the details.

My preference would be to ride in territory that I am familiar with, and with minimal traffic. More enjoyable to concentrate on the ride, than the commute tbh. I can forego the familiar territory in deference to your comfort level, if we can meet in the middle, so to speak.

Like I said, details.

There are a couple of long time board members in the Richmond area, and a number closer to the D.C
area. Given my quickly approaching medical adventure, it's possible this might be my last chance to do this for a while. From my perspective, the more the merrier.

Thanks for getting out RJ. Re-learned a lot. By the time I got home, I was feeling comfortable on this thing. You cut my learning curve dramatically. Now hurry up and heal up, and we can get some more runs in!!!!

Jim,

Thank you for joining me today..... I think we spent at least as much time talking as we did riding.

In case you were curious about the route, we went East from Doswell, until we intercepted the Richmond-Tappahanock turnpike (Hwy30), and continued on that until we got to Newtown Rd (721).... Went North on that until we turned off on to Mattaponi Trail (627) and followed that to Sparta Rd.

After the break we took Antioch Rd (722) all the way to Ladysmith Rd (639), and back to Hwy 1 a few miles North of Doswell.

Hopefully we can do that again before winter sets in.

I'm looking for tires now. A few more weeks, and I should have all the mechanical bugs worked out. And taking that one left, really boosted my confidence in what this bike will do. When I saw the curve tighten dramatically after the apex, I knew I was going down. Couldn't believe this thing held a corner that hard. I know I was at 70-75 going in, and think it was marked at 35.

That particular turn was on Newtown Rd..... There is one on Sparta Rd that is every bit a widow maker.

There are about a half dozen routes between Hwy 30 and the Southern border of A.P.Hill that are a wide range of fast or technical, or some combination. Good pavement, rough choppy stuff... Nearly anything you can think of.

Between that area, and the Northern neck, I can easily ride for a few hours without repeating roads.

Glad you got back okay.
