I Ride: 2004 ZX6R Pearl Blazing Orange
(Lazy Version) Mr5Drums' Fairing Repair

Here is everything from the original thread in the first couple posts.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

So after getting design ideas and photoshop concept from all you guys (thanks),
It's time to actually do this. Since laying the bike down on the right side last fall, I have been procrastinating doing this. Mainly because it was too cold to actually paint.
So here goes.

The damage

Originals

Concept designs (thanks all, and 8bit)

The repairs (fixing MY original plastic welding like an idiot by my dad aka rickthefix here)

Notice the missing lip on the left

Note the missing lip again at the top of the can

Repairing lip

The paint being applied. Rustoleom metallic Night sky. Has almost the same flake consistency as the pearl blazing orange

Going to prime tomorrow when it's not rainy and humid outside.

First primer coat

B just finished my decals !!!

Wet sanded the first coat of primer, dried it, and primed again

Wet sanded 3rd coat. Letting this one dry and then cleaning off any potential oils...and putting on the first coat of color. So nervous/excited. But, gotten this far, got to commit

Not to worry, the spots are where it has dried after being rinsed. This is the side that took the damage...cracked and a quarter sized hole...literally cannot even tell.

Put on first coat color on. Love this paint. Looks amazing.

Put on the color coat on the left side. The right (damaged) side Needed just a tad bit more prep work. Letting primer dry on it and color coat tomorrow

First clear coat on left side

Blazen/Reaper....I sent you pics so dont spoil it jerks!!!

Here is the left side without the decals though. came out really great. it's not as dark as it seems, has a fantastic sparkle to it. dark grey in person. really matches the gold accents peppered on the bike. i know...that sounded gay.

The right [damaged] side needs one more coat of clear on it. I wet sanded with 1000 grit lightly just to scuff it enough.

The last coat of clear on right side

The paint lines

1/8" black pin striping to clean the lines

Aaaaaaaannnndddddd the results.
Yesterday before the right side was done.

I forgot to mention in my original Photoshop entry that you should use the special translucent paint for the final coat. This will help you avoid the police. Save this coat for the last coat:

Forgot to update. I got new decals from B and adjusted the right side to match the Left. Unlike OEM. I think it looks better for this scheme. And, it satisfies Reaper's OCD

It's pretty cool how you took something shitty like laying your bike down and turned it into something creative and cool.

It's like that proverb, "When life gives you AIDS, make lemonades". Or something like that.

Nice job. I used that exact rust oleum paint on some of my interior and engine bay parts on my last car. I love the looks of that stuff
